KWU placed first overall in debate and forensics at the October Slam tournament at Crowder College in Neosho, Missouri. Coyote forces continued to dominate nearly every aspect of the tournament.

Three out of four teams made their way into elimination rounds in parliamentary debate. Freshman Nick Fowler and sophomore Jake Provo placed fourth. Junior Tonya Powers and senior Kiefer Storrer placed third. Freshman Kris Lewis and senior Zack Brown placed second. Kiefer Storrer also placed fourth in parliamentary speaker awards.

Salina, KS --The Kansas Wesleyan Orchestra and Wind Ensemble have collaborated for the first time this year in “Portraits from Distant Lands”. The performance will be on Thursday, October 11, in Sams Chapel.

This concert will feature the music of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Samuel R. Hazo, The California Guitar Trio, Jim Colonna, and more. The KWU Orchestra is directed by Ken Hakoda and the KWU Wind Ensemble is directed by Sarah Bernard-Stevens.

Salina, Kan. – Raj Panjabi, MD, MPH, the Co-Founder and Executive Director of Tiyatien Health, will speak on the Kansas Wesleyan campus on Wednesday, October 10. Panjabi, a native of Liberia, has been instrumental in delivering accessible health care to the people of rural Liberia through the Tiyatien Health project. Tiyatien Health employs people from Liberian villages as well-trained health workers to provide care in remote areas lacking doctors. A clinic was established in the town of Zwedru, in the remote southeastern interior jungle.

Homecoming 2012 was a week of fun for alumni.   The annual faculty/staff vs. the women’s soccer team was very well attended.  Many alumni, faculty and staff enjoyed watching the game and the cook-out following the provided by the Alumni Association.  The women’s softball team won the coveted trophy, once again.
