In 1994, British management consultant John Elkington coined the phrase ‘triple bottom line’ to describe the idea of considering not just a financial gain in business, but also a corporation’s level of commitment to improving people’s lives and the planet as a whole. Dr. Trish Petak’s Introduction to Business class received a first-hand course on those ideas this week, when it donated nearly 400 items to Catholic Charities in Salina.
The class donated items such as toiletries, paper towels and numerous other small materials to the charitable organization located just blocks from the KWU campus. The items will benefit families in need throughout the community.
“We were thrilled to be able to make this donation,” said Dr. Petak. “In both business and life, it’s important to be a valuable part of your community. KWU accomplishes that in many ways, and hopefully, this encourages these students to do the same in their future endeavors.”
