In its first year, Kansas Wesleyan’s DECA team has demonstrated strong business acumen during competition at Fort Hays State University. All KWU students placed either first or second in their categories.
Margo Sameulson placed first in accounting, and first with teammate Gabbie Miller in financial statement analysis. The team of Meagan Contreras and Ian Reiss-Hodges placed first in marketing communication. Individually Reiss-Hodges and Contreras placed first and second respectively in fashion merchandising and marketing. The team of Morgan Cessop and Kat Davis took first in event planning. Davis also took first in restaurant and food service management followed by fellow Coyote Autumn Colgin in second. Connor Burke and Eli Truhe took first in sports and entertainment marketing, with Connor Gies taking second. Truhe also placed first in the travel and tourism category, Gies landed a first in marketing management and Burke placed second in hotel and lodging. Megan Schutz rounded out the wins with a first place in banking financial service.
DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe. The organization values competence, innovation, integrity and teamwork. The Collegiate Division includes more than 15,000 members in 275 colleges and universities.
The Coyote DECA team will next compete at nationals in Washington, D.C., this April
