“More Than a Glance,” a faculty sabbatical exhibition by Lori Wright, associate professor of art at Kansas Wesleyan, will be featured in The Gallery at Sams Hall of Fine Arts at Kansas Wesleyan University from Jan. 17 to Feb. 15. There will be a reception for the artist from 5–7 p.m. Jan. 26, with remarks at 5:30 p.m., and a Gallery Talk from 12:10–12:50 p.m. Jan. 30.
Using various mediums, Wright’s body of work, created during her semester-long sabbatical, focuses on the study of eyes. Wright’s research not only encompassed the study of the structural makeup of the human eye, but also behavioral iridology which analyzes and determines behavioral traits based on the bio-markings of the eyes, while also exploring emotions expressed through the eyes. This project was funded in part by the Horizons Grants Program of the Salina Arts and Humanities Foundation. Funding is provided by Horizons, a private donor group.
“Allowing the viewer to create and build a narrative about the work is important to me, so relating to the viewer through human experience is imperative,” Wright said. “This is hopefully more than an exhibit to the viewer. I want it to be an experience.”
Lori Wright is associate professor of art and the Art and Design Department chair at Kansas Wesleyan University. Wright earned a B.F.A. from Emporia State University with a photography concentration and a M.F.A. with a drawing concentration from Kansas State University. Working in multimedia, including drawing, painting, printmaking and photography, Wright has exhibited her work locally, regionally and nationally earning numerous awards and honors.
