The Kansas Wesleyan Forensic and Debate team traveled to Mankato, MN, on Oct. 27 and 28 to attend the Vocal Viking Debate and Forensic Tournament on the campus of Bethany Lutheran University. It was the largest tournament in its 25-year history with 20 schools in attendance. Northwestern University and South Dakota State University won school sweepstakes honors.
In individual competition, the Coyotes more than held their own with 11 awards. In Parliamentary Debate, junior Autumn Zimmerman and sophomore Cassity Morlan place third. Zimmerman received a fourth place speaker’s award and senior Dakota Yates receive eighth place.
In Individual Events, Dakota Yates placed second in Extemporaneous Speaking. Sophomore Megan Kline placed third in Informative Speaking, fourth in Persuasive Speaking, and sixth in Impromptu Speaking. Autumn Zimmerman placed fourth in Informative Speaking, fifth in Program of Oral Interpretation, and sixth in Communications Analysis.
Autumn Zimmerman also placed fifth overall in Individual Sweepstakes. This award is based on the total points earned by a competitor.
