Kansas Wesleyan University announced the latest donation to the renovation of its new nursing facility Friday, a $150,000 gift from local philanthropist Mac Steele. The gift boosts the total contributions to more than $3.5 million, just under $1 million shy of the amount needed to complete the project.
Steele, a lifelong resident of Salina and a graduate of St. John’s Military Academy, is known for his passion for the community and numerous investments in keeping the area thriving. He has made multiple donations to area schools and foundations to work toward the betterment of Salina and the surrounding area.
“This is a remarkable gift from a very special friend,” said Ken Oliver, senior director of development. “Mac has supported this campaign from the very beginning and we are deeply grateful to him in helping us carry out the mission of the KWU Nursing department, preparing students for their future careers. His gift will truly make a difference in the lives of our students.
